Honnor Marine - Builders of Classic Boats for over 50 years - Original Devon Boats

This advert is for a new boat, ready to sail including rig, ex engine and trailer.  orders are now being taken for delivery in time for the 2019 season.

Original Devon Boats are famous for combining stability, with classic lines, at an affordable price. Built from the original Drascombe moulds but with an upgraded specification to RCD category C and all mainsails are loose-footed for extra safety. These shallow-drafted boats can be supplied with an easy launch trailer, so they are ideal for trailer sailing and exploring shallow waters where larger vessels cannot go.

Additional Information

Honnor Marine builds boats for Outdoor Adventure Centres, Scout Groups, the RYA Sailability Scheme and of course, families who love the outdoors and adventure. The iconic look of tan sails, wooden spars and bronze fittings, evokes a nostalgic feeling that is appreciated by all ages. You can sail, motor or row and if you decide to camp, there is a bespoke tent to fit all models. You will probably see more Honnor Marine Luggers in British waters than any other type of traditional sailing boat sporting classic tan sails.

There is a growing trend for sailors of larger boats to down-scale to an Original Devon Boat, thus saving on expensive mooring costs. These trailer sailers are easy to launch, recover and can even be sailed single-handed. The Original Devon Dabber and Scaffie are therefore becoming Honnor Marine’s most popular boats.

The Dabber and Scaffie are quick to rig as the mast and spars just slot into position. The Dabber takes only 20 minutes, including stepping the mast, whereas the Scaffie takes only 15 minutes as her substantial mast is unstayed. Due to the weight of boat and trailer, both boats can be launched and recovered by hand, providing conditions allow. They can also be kept at any dinghy club as their size fits into a large dinghy parking space.

The Scaffie is fast and full of adventure and is just as capable as the bigger boats.

The Scaffie is built to the same proud standards of craftsmanship evident in all our craft. The single standing lug-sail loose is footed for safety and simplicity, it gives the Scaffie a really brisk performance.

A 2-3 hp outboard is all you will need to drive this boat along. The Scaffie makes an excellent rowing boat, and is light to pull and easy to hold on course. An optional sloop rig is also available. Though only 4.5 m ( 14ft.9" ) overall, the Scaffie is quite roomy, because there is no centre-plate to fill up the cockpit.
